Homemade Hamburger Helper

What you’ll need: 

1.25 lbs 80/20 ground chuck 
1 diced yellow onion 
5-6 teaspoon minced garlic 
3.5 cups beef broth 
1 cup heavy cream 
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning 
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes 
1/2 teaspoon paprika ( add more if you like more spice) 
salt and pepper 
3 tablespoons tomato paste 
1 lb pasta shells 
7 oz grated mild cheddar cheese 

How to make Homemade Hamburger Helper:

  1. We use a dutch oven, on medium low heat- add olive oil 

  2. Add onion, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, S&P, cook 7-8 min until tender 

  3. Add garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes 

  4. Add ground beef, s&p, paprika and brown meat 

  5. Make room in middle and add tomato paste and cook for 3 min 

  6. Mix all together 

  7. Add beef broth and heavy cream and bring to a boil

  8. Add pasta shells, lower to simmer, cook 15-20 minutes 

  9. Add shredded cheese 

  10. Finish with some butter stirred in and taste.  Season more if needed. 

Doug serves with crescent rolls and salad.
